Molluscum Contagiosum

Molluscum Contagiosum is a common viral skin infection characterised by round, firm, or hard painless bumps; they can vary in size from a pinhead to a pencil eraser.

Our dermatologists can easily tell if you have Molluscum contagiosum simply because the infection usually causes bumps with a distinctive appearance. It is imperative to note that a confirmed diagnosis will prove useful in eliminating other skin lesions with similar symptoms, such as skin cancer, chickenpox, or even warts.

Treatment options are by either curettage or topical therapy.

Curettage gets rid of molluscum by scraping them out with the help of a spoon like device called a curette. A topical numbing cream may be applied for comfort during the procedure.

Topical therapy may also be prescribed which may consists of acids or other chemicals that may effectively and safely remove the molluscum lesions.
